"Idioms" emphasizes intercultural dialouge. American, Swedish
and Vietnamese music and theatre meets in a unique artistic project.
IDIOMS
is a piece of experimental music theatre with three actors and the three
musicians in The Six Tones (Vietnam and Sweden). The text in the piece
(written by Jörgen Dahlqvist) is in English, Swedish and Vietnamese
and can be understood as a deconstruction of three classic stories of
impossible love across cultures and social barriers: Marguerite Duras:
The Lover, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and
the Vietnamese tale of My Chau and Trong Thuy. The different traditions
that the actors represent provides a range of expression in a wide span
between spoken theatre and opera. The music, which in a similar way weaves
traditional Vietnamese music together with experimental Western music,
is produced by Richard Karpen in dialogue with the three musicians and
the computer programmer Josh Parmenter from DXARTS, University of Washington.
Composer:
Richard Karpen. Text + director: Jörgen Dahlqvist.
Participants: The Six Tones and three actors
World premiere scheduled to september/october 2011.

of the radiophonic hörspiel. Circus Maximus is a large scale project
which is more of a staged installation for actors and musicians with electronics
scheduled for autumn 2011. Circus Maximus is a commission from the EU-project
Integra and Ars Nova.
Premiere scheduled to september 2011
Jörgen
Dahlqvist and Kent Olofsson keep on pursuing the aestethics of the scenic
installation. "De stränga anteckningarna" will be the next
performance in the Sonat Series.
De stränga anteckningarna (The Harsh Notes) is the
working title for a project that intends to explore the voice and will
involve both actors and singers, building also on new experimental vocal
techniques. The base of the narrative is the story of Orpheus and Eurydike.
The text stretches out the moment when Orpheus turns around and let everything,
both past and present, take place at the same time. It has also echoes
of a war zone.
Text + director: Jörgen Dahlqvist
Composer: Kent Olofsson
Art Work: Peter Jönsson
Actors: Linda Ritzén and Rafael Pettersson
The performance will also include four singers,
World premiere scheduled to january 2011 at the Inter Arts Center
in Malmö.
